In her current role, Katie assists the Program Directors and Director of Programs and Public Policy with data analysis, audits, and quarterly reports. Katie has worked with survivors of sexual violence for 9 years and has accompanied hundreds of sexual assault survivors in the emergency department. Since joining Resilience in 2017, Katie has carried many roles including the Medical Advocacy Coordinator and the Children’s Medical & Legal Advocate. In addition, she interned for the Director of Advocacy Services and the Advocacy Volunteer Coordinator. Prior to her time at Resilience, Katie worked for People Against Rape (PAR), a sexual assault advocacy organization offering support for survivors in Charleston, South Carolina. Through her work at PAR, Katie listened to countless crisis calls on their 24/7 hotline, accompanied survivors at the emergency room, and planned community events to promote sexual assault awareness.
Katie has a strong interest in data analysis, and its ability to improve programs and enhance the healing of survivors. Through independent research at PAR, Katie analyzed 1,860 redacted client data, and had the opportunity to present her analysis to The Southern Sociological Society 2017 (Diversities: Inclusions, Equality, and Resistance). Her findings helped PAR serve more survivors per fiscal year.
Katie earned a Master of Social Work at Jane Addams College of Social Work in May of 2021, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, with a double minor in International Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies, from the College of Charleston.
