Help Us Bring Ricky Tells His Truth to the Next Generation of Learners

For many children, learning how to recognize safe and unsafe touch—and identifying a trusted adult they can tell if something feels wrong—can be life-changing knowledge. At Resilience, prevention education is a core part of our mission to end rape culture, and one of the tools we use to support those conversations is our children’s book, Ricky Tells His Truth.

The story follows Ricky, a young boy who confides in a friend that his babysitter is sexually abusing him. Through compassionate storytelling and age-appropriate language, the book helps children understand important concepts like body safety, disclosure, and empathy. It is designed to support educators in creating safe spaces where children can learn that their bodies belong to them and that it is always okay to speak up.

Ricky Tells His Truth has been used in prevention programming for years, but the original illustrations were created in-house using basic software. As we prepare to expand the book’s use in classrooms and educational settings, we are working to re-illustrate, redesign, and professionally publish the book so it can better engage young readers and meet the needs of today’s educators.

With updated artwork and professional design, Ricky Tells His Truth will become an even stronger tool for prevention education—helping children understand boundaries, recognize when something is not right, and feel empowered to tell their truth.

Your support will help fund the illustration, design, editing, and publishing of this important resource so it can reach more classrooms, educators, and children. Together, we can help give young people the language, knowledge, and confidence they need to stay safe.

We are honored to feature our supporters in every copy of the book. For donations of $250 and above, your name will be included in our printed acknowledgments. The top 5 donors to this campaign will each receive a printed copy of the book.
