SAAM Challenge Fundraising Campaign

The SAAM Challenge is a fundraising campaign that was created for individuals, organizations, and businesses to raise funds throughout April in support of Resilience’s free programs and services for survivors.

This year, our fundraising goal is $20,000.  We would like to have as many people as possible participate in our SAAM Challenge and hope everyone will join us in whatever way works for them. Participation can look like donating, starting a fundraiser, or simply sharing our messages with your friends and family.

Monday, April 4 and Monday, April 11, 2022 | T-Shirt Designing Open Studio

Create a message of support for survivors or a message to end sexual violence and wear your t-shirt to Standing Silent Witness on April 29! Participants must gather all materials independently. Suggested materials may include cotton t-shirts, acrylic paints, markers, stencils, inks, fabrics, sequins, and more. Survivors and allies are welcome to join the open studio for one session or both dates, for the full studio time or partial time, as your schedule allows. Wednesday, April 27, 2022 | Denim Day
All Day
Social media everywhere
Denim Day is a campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Please wear denim, share photos, and tag Resilience on social media (@ResilienceChi)!

Friday, April 29, 2022 | Standing Silent Witness
11:45 am – 1:00 pm
Federal Plaza, 219 S. Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60604
Facebook Event

Join Resilience for our signature SAAM event, back in person this year after two years of being virtual. In a visual demonstration of the silencing of survivors, participants gather silently for one hour wearing t-shirts with stories and messages protesting sexual violence and rape culture. This powerful event includes community members, advocates, volunteers, and survivors amplifying stories that are too often ignored as a way to break the silence about sexual violence. The past two years, Resilience has flooded the internet with support for survivors. This year we are back in person at Federal Plaza (219 S. Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60604)! We will gather on the corner of Dearborn Street and Adams Street next to the U.S. Postal Office building. Participants will be socially distanced during this outdoor event. Please join us at 11:45 a.m. to meet and organize before the demonstration begins at noon, lasting one hour. At the end of that hour, we will break the silence by chanting messages of support. Come by Standing Silent Witness during a break in your day and stay as long as you are able.

This event is free. Register for Standing Silent Witness here. Registration is encouraged but not mandatory to attend. Contact Maggie Arthur with questions. You can share or RSVP to the Facebook event here. We hope to see you there!
