To assist area higher education institutions in ensuring compliance with the Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act, Rape Victim Advocates (RVA) will be offering a 40-hour training specifically designed for Confidential Advisors. RVA has an extensive history of working with higher education institutions, providing student support, policy consultation, technical assistance, training and prevention education to 13 Chicago area higher education institutions.

The Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act recently passed in Illinois, detailing a number of expectations of higher education institutions in Illinois regarding various aspects of the sexual violence response on campus. Among the many provisions is a requirement that each institution identify one or more Confidential Advisors and that the identified Confidential Advisor receive 40 hours of specialized training, with the deadline for compliance being August 1, 2016.

RVA is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the healing and empowerment of sexual assault survivors through non-judgmental crisis intervention, individual counseling, support groups and medical and legal advocacy in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. RVA provides public education and institutional advocacy in order to improve the treatment of sexual assault survivors and to effect positive change in policies and public attitudes toward sexual assault. Since 1974, RVA has also provided professional training to law enforcement, prosecutors, physicians, nurses, educators and other professionals including university faculty and staff across the Chicagoland area as well as four 60-hour trainings for volunteers annually.
