Trauma Therapist


Katie Kirshenbaum, LSW, is a Licensed Social Worker and Trauma Therapist at Resilience’s Northside office, providing individual and group therapy to survivors and their loved ones. Katie has ten years of experience working with survivors of sexual violence in a wide variety of different capacities including accompanying and advocating for hundreds of sexual assault survivors in various emergency departments.

Katie received her Master of Social Work in 2021 from the University of Illinois at Chicago and became a Licensed Social Worker in 2022. Katie holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, with a double minor in International Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies from the College of Charleston. She completed her clinical internship at the Northwest Center Against Sexual Assault in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Throughout her internship she provided individual trauma therapy to adolescents and adults using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Since joining the Resilience family in 2017, Katie has served in multiple roles including the Programs Assistant, the Medical Advocacy Coordinator, and the Children’s Medical & Legal Advocate. In addition, she interned for the Director of Advocacy Services and the Advocacy Volunteer Coordinator.

Prior to her time at Resilience, Katie worked at People Against Rape (PAR), a sexual assault advocacy organization offering support for survivors in Charleston, South Carolina. Through her work at PAR, Katie listened to countless crisis calls on their 24/7 hotline, accompanied survivors at the emergency room, and planned community events to promote sexual assault awareness.

Katie provides trauma-informed, person centered, therapy and incorporates feminist and strengths-based approaches into her work.
